Coventry City put in a superb performance and won 3-0 at Luton Town.

With the Sky Blues unlikely to be taken over any time soon, it was off to Kenilworth Road for a League Two fixture against a Luton Town, who topped the league doing what City have not for the last four games in scoring goals.

Yet again, the City support was out in force with all the allocation in this ramshackle stadium, built at the bottom of someone's back garden, being sold out, twelve days before the game which saw Jordan Ponticelli, who is the top scorer in the U23's League 2 Southern section, starting and City supporters from as far away as Italy.

City attacked the far end for the first half but had to deal with a third minute free kick that fell for Cov kid James Collins to volley wide.

On a sunny afternoon which was pretty pleasant for the last Saturday in October, City started to get into the game with Grimmer finding Jones who won a tenth minute corner.

Liam Kelly got the ball from a back pass from the keeper and launched a shot from inside the centre circle which hit the bar.

City went forward again. Jodi Jones put over a 16th minute wonderful cross and there was Marc McNulty to powerfully head into the net for City's first league goal this month.

Not that there was much room to celebrate in a stand where the seats were bolted onto the terrace, but the City support went as berserk as they could at what was a well worked goal.

Luton pressed but a good Rod McDonald block and some poor finishing ended any threat posed by Danny Hylton and Collins.

McNulty, who ran well, tried and failed with another long ranger whilst his striker partner Jordan Ponticelli was having to deal with some of the physical stuff being dished out by the home side.

To his credit, Ponticelli stood up very well. Not making a fuss, simply getting up and getting on with his job of trying to play in Jodi Jones or Marc McNulty.

Jones' pace was also proving too much for the home defence and he was hacked behind in the 41st minute and the miscreant Olly Lee was duly booked.

A Luton corner was well cleared up the other end by a City team certainly playing some of their best football this month with Haynes making some great tackles, Doyle doing well despite having his shirt held and Jordan Willis clearing when he needed to. which kept City ahead at the break.

Three minutes into the second half and Jones got down the left and whipped in a great ball had to be hacked away for a corner.

Jones, urged on by the City support, ran and fired at Stech in the 51st minute. Luton won a free kick and then a corner which blasted high into the stand.

City attacked. Stech saved and then there was a block which looked a handball to the City support but not the referee.

A good move brought a 62nd minute corner and one at the other end a minute later.

Danny Hylton blasted wide and then shoved over Vincenti as yet another plane taking off from Luton Airport came into view.

Two corners for City then followed after an initial McNulty shot was blocked for a City side that should have had a 72nd minute penalty when Jordan Willis was smashed in the face.

Jordan Willis got elbowed in the head missed by the referee and had to have his head bandaged but Willis not going to limp out of this one as there was still a job to do and with ten to go, Robins replaced Ponticelli, who was a credit to City's Academy and U23's with his performance and Vincenti with Nazon and Biamou.

Nazon battled although he was given no help by the referee who had to give City an 85th minute corner thanks to more good work from Jones.

Burge, who made some excellent saves all game, did well in the 88th minute to smother a low shot before Robins made his final change bringing on Jordan Shipley just before stoppage time which saw Glenn Rea sent off for hacking down McNulty on the edge of the area in the area.

Jordan Shipley stepped up to take it and smashed the ball in before celebrating with a jubilant City support who enjoyed what was an excellent performance and victory when Duckens Nazon got the ball, cut inside and curled into the net in the 96th minute to give City a 3-0 win.
