COVENTRY CITY LADIES 4-1 STOCKPORT COUNTY LADIES BY KEV MONKS
Coventry City kept their slim hopes of staying in the FA Women's Premier League alive with a 4-1 victory over Stockport County.
Playing a side changed from the one which had lost to Lincoln City in midweek, the Sky Blues were two goals ahead with less than fifteen minutes on the clock.
On Loan striker Katy Ward put City ahead rifling a twenty five yard effort high in to the net in the tenth minute.
Defender Emma Lipman who had a fine game at centre half, was first to react to a corner won by Katy Ward and forced the ball over the line from close range four minutes later.
Mark Phillips side kept the momentum going and two minutes into the second half went further ahead thanks to Lucy Lutton heading a long ball forward from Julia Marshall past her own keeper from the edge of the penalty area.
In the 65th minute, Andy Lee's side pulled one back when Kate Brusell beat the Coventry offside trap and rifled a shot from eighteen yards high into the net.
Apart from this goal, City keeper Kelly Cartwright had confidently dealt with any sorties into the Sky Blues penalty area and this combined with some good work in midfield saw City round off their best performance of the season with a stunning goal in the last minute.
A ball from midfield was pumped forward in the direction of substitute Sarah Marshall who was just inside the penalty area. She out jumped her marker, turned and smashed a volley high into the roof of the net with aplomb.
Mark Phillips was pleased with the performance and is hoping for the same effort from his side in their final game against Wolves at Nuneaton Borough FC on Wednesday April 27th at 7.45pm
