Coventry City worked hard to beat Cheltenham Town 2-0.

A mad dash thanks to one of our party being late, saw us get in just on kick to see City in their home kit, fielding last season's U21 side plus Leon Clarke, Cyrus Christie and Carl Baker.

We made it in to In2Print Stand as part of the 199 strong City support which just sat back and watched the team play, rather than make any protests.

With Jordan Clarke working hard in defence along side the more than capable Jack Finch and Billy Daniels pulling strings in midfield, the Sky Blues got into Dean Yates' League Two side.

Leon Lobjoit fired a shot in at Scott Brown and in the fifth minute, the persistence of Leon Clarke saw him get the ball of Jombati and get the ball on his right foot and hit a shot which hit Brown's left hand post.

Leon Clarke continued to be a handful, getting past his marker, but Brown got down well to block. City won a corner was headed away. The lively McGlashan wnet through but was met by the steadfast Burge who gathered the loose ball.

Another corner followed as did a 22nd minute free kick which Baker took, but hits the wall. The skipper regained the ball and passed to Wilson who was clear on goal but Scott Brown in the Cheltenham goal, made a great save.

Baker won a corner before Billy Daniels let rip with a 25 yard shot that Brown had to smother.

Cheltenham had a brief spell of pressure with a telling cross from McGlashan going across the face of the City goal, a free kick and two corners.

City came back in the 32nd minute when following a foul on Wilson, Leon Clarke won the ball back and found Baker on the right for a shot which went high and wide.

Steven Pressley, who applauded all the City support on the final whistle, watched as his young side won another corner. Adam Barton, who played some good stuff, just missed Leon Clarke at the far post.

When City next got the ball, it was to cheers from the City supporters in the side stand at Whaddon Road. Daniels slipped a neat ball inside to Leon Clarke who hit a terrific shot from the edge of the area high into the net.

Leon Lobjoit was another who worked hard and he fired high and wide before Lee Burge tipped over a Braham Barnett left sided cross for a corner.

City had the better of the opening exchanges at the start of the second half with a Baker free kick and a low shot at Scott Brown.

Matt Richards curled over from 20 yards in another spell of pressure from The Robins.

Dean Yates made a number of changes but they were to no avail as City wrapped up a good performance with a second goal thanks to a good move.

Ryan Haynes was one player involved as a peach of a pass was sent across the field by Adam Barton to Cyrus Christie on the right, who cut in before unleashing a powerful 73rd minute shot which Brown had no chance with as it hit the back of the net.

Steven Pressley decided with the game won to give some of the U18's an outing and off went Leon Clarke, Barton, Daniels, Baker and Christie, with Bako, Quinn, Maund, Bromley and Lawton coming on.

One of the Cheltenham subs - Bowerman gets in round the back of the defence, only for Burge to calmly catch the ball and sends it upfield for Callum Wilson, who worked hard but did not have much success to chase.

Ryan Haynes, who battled well all night, fired high over the bar. Cheltenham won a corner which . Jordan Clarke headed clear.

There was time for Cheltenham to have one last attack but a great save from Burge, diving to his left, ensured he had the clean-sheet his performance merited and and City had a 2-0 win.
