COVENTRY CITY RESERVES 2-0 LEICESTER CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City Reserves gained some local pride with a well deserved victory over Leicester City.

Coventry have only scored once in their first five games and Darren Robinson who was in charge of the team whilst Alan Cork is on a break in Southern Spain, opted for a different strike partnership as he pitted Craig Reid with a gangly trialist from Watford by the name of Baz Savage.

Also back in the side for this game which was switched from the Arena to Rugby Town, were Paul Watson,Andy Impey,Isaac Osbourne and Neil Wood.

Kick off was delayed as there were not enough pegs in the netting in one of the goals but when play finally did start after a nine and a half minute delay,Leicester should have gone ahead when a 55 second free kick fell for Ashley Chambers who blasted over from six yards.

City's first attack came nine minutes later when a Andy Gooding cross was taken off Craig Reid's head by Liam Davis who nodded wide.

Davis fired wide in the 13th minute but seconds later, the winger who made his first team debut recently cut inside, past two defenders and rifled a low shot from twelve yards into the net for what was City Reserves second goal in six matches.

The Foxes came straight back at City and a Louis Dodds shot crashed against the crossbar.

Neil Wood had started the game but went over on his left ankle and had to be replaced by Ben Turner in the 15th minute.

With twenty four minutes gone, a shot from Baz Savage was deflected for a corner. Liam Davis sent over the kick and Craig Reid banged the ball low into the net from six yards.

With Isaac Osbourne and Luke Webb controlling the midfield,Reid and Savage were able to push forward. A well worked 36th minute move saw Savage shrug off two defenders to set up Osbourne who fired over from twenty yards.

As the half came to a satisfying end. Luke Webb and Andy Gooding had two chances which Conrad Logan in the Leicester goal got down to pounce on.

With the second period underway and then evening growing colder, Logan made a good save to get a Reid effort away with his feet.
In the 71st minute, Logan who was by far the Foxes best player, got down to superbly push away a Luke Webb free kick.
Chances were few and far between after that and Robinson used the opportunity to give Aza Ogarro and Vijay Sidhu a bit more experience as the Sky Blues kept things tight and ensured that the fully deserved victory was theirs.
