RUGBY TOWN 2-1 CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

City Reserves lost their one and only pre-season crashing to a two-one defeat at Rugby Town.

As part of the deal to stage reserve team games at Rugby Town, (something of a necessity rather than being ideal considering the large support for the team about the wrong end of the M69 in this Warwickshire town famed for another sport),
City sent over a mixed strength side for a friendly.

Main Stand at Rugby United

City welcomed Richard Brush back from a wrist injury which saw him miss the entirity of last season.

Also included in the side managed by Alan Cork were Andy Whing,Isaac Osbourne,Kevin Thornton,Neil Wood,Graham Barrett as well as Moroccan trialist. Sersay who was in for Craig Reid who has gastroentroitus.

Watched by a crowd of 559,some of whom taunted Micky Adams with chants of "Leicester Reject" as he made his way to the Directors box on the far side of the Butlin Road ground, VS had an early corner before Seresay headed over and in the 14th minute,a long range Andy Whing effort was deflected wide by the back of Graham Barrett.

There were very few clear cut chances. But in the 35th minute, the Southern League Premier Division side took the lead. Luke Webb had cleared a James Rowe header off the line following a free kick. From the resulting corner,Delroy Morgan was not picked up and he headed powerfully home from close range.

In the 55th minute, the home side doubled their tally when a City corner led to one at the other end. Richard Brush flapped at the cross and David Stone banged in the loose ball.

Cork made a double switch in the 61st minute, taking off the best two players in Andy Whing and Kevin Thornton and bringing on Aza Ogarro and Rikki Bains.

Ogarro had the best chance of the second half for City when a twenty eight yard thunderbolt struck the crossbar as it went over.

Two more changes by Cork followed with trialist Seresay being replaced by Andy Gooding and Vijay Sidihu coming on for Luke Webb.

Two minutes from time,City pulled one back when Vijay Sidhu stroked home a Liam Davis cross.

City Reserves travel to Crystal Palace for their opening FA Prem League South game next Wednesday and if they are going to play better than this.
