NUNEATON BOROUGH 3-2 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS

Woeful defender and more poor keeping saw Coventry City go down to a 3-2 defeat at Nuneaton Borough

City who will play at Kidderminster Harriers on August 1st,fielded a stronger team than the one which had lost at Halesowen Town on Monday night.
There was no Gary McSheffrey prompting rumours that a move to Birmingham City is imminent. coupled with rumours of Birmingham had offering the striker a £5k a week wage rise

Micky Adams used the game to field a trialist keeper Jaroslaw Drobny.

With a loud chorus of the Sky Blue Song from the 400+ strong City support echoing round a sunny, half full Manor Park, it was the latest trialist who made the first save of the game. catching a second minute free kick.

City controlled the play with Stephen Hughes in the centre of midfield and Don Hutchison up front with Dele Adebola and deservedly were ahead in the 17th minute when a Hughes cross was flicked back by Adebola for Don Hutchison to rifle home from close range.

Jay Tabb looked lively and in the 28th minute,he crossed into a crowded penalty area. Don Hutchison hit a shot which hit a defender on the line and Dele Adebola tapped in.

Adebola then hit the post with a header and Jay Tabb rifled a 28 yard shot which thumped the bar and bounced down for Elliott Ward to come in with a header which Boro keeper Darren Acton saved.

It was all City but some poor defending and goal-keeping saw City's lead wiped out.

Roger Ashby's side which included former Sky Blues Mark Noon and Robert Oddy reduced the arrears in the 35th minute when Michael Doyle pulled down David Staff. Gez Murphy who works for Cov Council took the spot kick and scored.

Six minutes later it was 2-2 thanks to a howler from Drobny who slipped on the ball allowing Gez Murphy to tap into an empty net.

The Sky Blues forced five early corners in the second half but in the 61st minute, more poor defending saw Boro go in the lead when a corner was not defended at all and Boro skipper Neil Moore was allowed space and time to slam in from close range.

This provoked some ugly scenes in the Cock N Bear end with stewards and police stopping City supporters from getting into the upper tier section of the terrace.

Dele Adebola was replaced in the 67th minute. David McNamee came on as City went to three at the back and James Scowcroft who is interesting Crystal Palace going up front.

Roger Ashby did the same making a number of chances which saw former Sky Blue reserves Gary McPhee and David Blenkinsopp introduced.

The Boro goal was rarely threatened. Jay Tabb, my man of the match was replaced by Kevin Thornton with five to go but it was to no avail and City went down to a defeat
