Coventry City Ladies' hopes of remaining in the FA WPL Northern Division took a big dent as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

For a game that had been postponed five times and moved to Flixton AFC from Abbey Hey,
Mark Phillips side put in an encouraging performance in the opening half.

Katy Ward, on loan to the Sky Blues from Birmingham, crashed a right footed effort from twelve yards against the crossbar in the 14th minute before Anna McLeod struck a post in the 36th minute.

In the last minute of the half, Katy Ward raced through only for the Citizens keeper Sian Payne to block the ball with her feet.

In the 66th minute, all the Sky Blues hard work in ensuring that all keeper Kelly Cartwright had to do was take simple catches, was undone. Caroline Dixon who is related to the former Arsenal defender, was given time to turn inside the area and thump the ball into the net from ten yards.

Dixon put her side further ahead in the 83rd minute when she reacted to a penalty area scramble to fire high into the net.

The heads of the Coventry players dropped and with news that fellow strugglers Tranmere and Sheffield Wednesday had both won, Linsey Savage was allowed to head from unmarked from a last minute corner.
