QUEENS PARK RANGERS 0-1 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City earned their fourth away win of the season with good performance at Queens Park Rangers.

Micky Adams' side were late arriving at Loftus Road due to the coach returning to their lunch venue in Chesham being stuck in traffic after dropping off the kit.

This meant the players and management were forced to do what supporters take for granted and take the tube to White City. Jay Tabb's knowledge of the capital's transport system came in useful and the players made it to the ground at 2.20pm.

Micky Adams gave a debut to Darren Currie and kept faith with Dele Adebola and Leon McKenzie up front.

On a day where the 20th anniversary of The Coventry Legion prompted a large police & steward presence, the top tier of the School End stand was rocking with a noisy 1,159 strong City support boosted by supporters from Northern Ireland and Scandinavia.

The Sky Blues started with Currie on the left and Clive Clarke in the centre of midfield and were soon closing down the Rangers midfield to supply the likes of Currie,McKenzie and Colin Cameron who had City's first shot in the second minute.

Elliott Ward back in the side after recovering from a back injury, headed a corner wide six minutes later.

In the 16th minute,Dele Adebola should have put the Sky Blues ahead when Michael Doyle closed down his opponent, won the ball and played in the Nigerian, who had been prevented from joining Leeds on Thursday. Unfortunately, Dele could only hit a tame shot which Simon Royce easily gathered.

QPR boss John Gregory was getting a tirade of taunts from the City support as City won three consecutive corners in the 22nd minute.

Taking these was Darren Currie who looked a ball to feet sort of player but he proved in the 32nd minute that he was more than capable of whipping in a cross.

For the first 35 minutes, the Sky Blues were the only team in it but as the half came to a close,Andy Marshall made three good saves.

Attacking the School End where the Coventry support was housed for the second half, City came out fighting.

Two and a half minutes after the restart, the goal we wanted arrived when Dele Adebola got the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area, turned his marker and drilled a low shot past Royce from eight yards.

Nygarrd hit the bar at the other end with a header straight after but that was it from the home side.

Dele Adebola was in fine form and in the 52nd minute,he produced an excellent bit of distribution to find McKenzie whose cross was headed by Stewart over his own bar for a corner.

Another cross, a minute later, by the former Norwich striker was met by the incoming Currie but unfortunately the ball went over the bar.

In the 56th minute,John Gregory made a double change switching their best player Marcus Bignot to centre half.

City were always equal to anything Rangers could offer and almost doubled their tally with twenty minutes to go.

Dele Adebola was again the architect, finding Marcus Hall who delivered a cross which just missed the diving McKenzie.

In the 83rd minute, Darren Currie who had a useful debut, was given a standing ovation by the City support, when he was replaced by Kevin Kyle.

Andy Marshall made a good save before referee Mr Penton decided that a staggering five minutes of stoppage time was required.

A corner produced a few nervy moments but City who had Kyle joining Duffy and Hall in the book, defended it well and enjoyed the celebrations that this victory deserved.
