It was not a good trip to the seaside as Coventry City were beaten 2-0 at Morecambe.

At the end of a week where City had booked their place in the FA Cup Third Round and drawn Stoke City at home, been knocked out of the Birmingham Senior Cup and started to celebrate Coventry being named as City Of Culture for 2021, it was off to Morecambe for a League Two fixture.

With snow on the ground in Cov, the players travelled up on Friday whilst the City support travelled by car, coach or train.

Around seven hundred City supporters including supporters from Sussex and Hampshire took over the pubs on the sea front and town centre before making their way in to the Globe Arena to see the Sky Blues with Rod McDonald back in defence for Coventry City's first ever League game against Morecambe.

With the rain having stopped and a bit of sunshine. City were soon having to defend with McDonald heading off the line in the sixth minute.

As 'City Of Culture' chants boomed out of the away terrace,  Morecambe won two corners and Burge pushed over a Thompson header.

In his 700th appearance for City. Michael Doyle was the target of a nasty tackle which produced a caution for McGurk.

The home side continued to have efforts which thankfully were all wide of Burge's goal, not helped by the full backs not being tight on their markers.

Ben Stevenson had a shot block which led to a 17th minute corner for City who had Nazon spoken to.

The Haiti international won a corner four minutes later but again it was cleared and McGurk hit a shot from twenty yards which bounced off Burge's left hand post.

In the 25th minute, a great McNulty cross fell to Nazon who won a corner.

A corner was the result of a good block bu Burge to stop Oliver in the 31st minute when he had got through.

A goal had been coming and it came in the 35th minute when the home side had a free kick and in ran Vadaine Oliver to toe-poke past Burge.

Oliver, who looked a decent player, fired over on the turn before the half ended and City were deservedly booed off.

Peter Vincenti and Devon Kelly-Evans were sent on at the break for the Sky Blues shop again took their time to get into the game.

McNulty blasted over in a rare attack for City but for the first fifteen minutes. It was no better than it had been in tjhe first half and Robins was told by some of the frozen cold City support to sort it out.

Max Biamou wearing a blue bandage after getting a cauliflower ear in the win over Boreham Wood, was again the subject of some aggregation but stood up to it well before McNulty fired at Roche in the 64th minute.

Morecambe sent on Callum Lang and within a minute of coming on, Lang ran and finished well to make it 2-0 to The Shrimps.

The City support were livid but did jump up as McNulty struck Roche's left hand post.

If things were bad enough for the City support, having Max Muller inciting them, was well out of order and highlighted the German's complete lack of any culture, even earning a ticking off from his own goalkeeper.

City's man of the match by far, Lee Burge made a great save in the 85th minute to keep the scoreline slightly respectable for a City side who were poor throughout and got what they deserved.
