Coventry City failed to get the win they needed and drew 0-0 at Notts County.

The Sky Blues' 41st league game of the season was a massive six pointer and saw the City support off to Nottingham to see Tony Mowbray's side take on Notts County.

City who have only won twice on Easter Monday since the last world war (Ipswich 1994) and Shrewsbury (1958), arrived at a ground where they have not won since August 1963 or put another in the lifetime of many of the City support, including five who cycled from Bedworth in memory of a late City supporter, who had made it into Meadow Lane on a lovely sunny day.

City, in all sky blue, had Simeon Jackson back after a couple of outings with Canada and also started German Nick Proschwitz in a team that was without John Fleck, who was out after tweeting a medial ligament.

Amid plenty of noise from the City support, some of whom was having problems finding a seat until the stewards got their act together, the Sky Blues had the first real chance in the third minute when Jackson fired at Northern Ireland international Roy Carroll.

County with Paul Hart in caretaker charge, won the first corner in the fifth minute but McCourt made a right hash and City were able to go up the other end and win a corner of their own.

Burge had to push away a Mullins drive for the first of two corners in the 17th minute and two minutes later and Jones sent a free kick wide after it had bounced off the defensive wall.

City were probably conceding two many free kicks, so when play was stopped for an injury to Stokes, Tony Mowbray had a chance to have a word in a few ears.

Jones fired at Burge on the half hour mark and Carroll flapped to give City the first of three corners and another in the 38th minute, but yet again that came to nothing.

Jordan Willis got into a great position but fired across the area, missing Proschwitz who had held the ball reasonably well but looked isolated

In the 43rd minute, Notts County won a corner, Alan Smith got booked and Jackson blasted over as this turgid affair came to an end.

Three minutes into the second half and Adam Barton won a corner but the ball went out of play and again a good chance was wasted.

Barton gave Carroll an easy catch in the 53rd minute as the 1873 strong City support did their best to lift the team with choruses of the "Sky Blue Song" and "Sky Blue Army".

Ward had a corner cleared away and Nouble, again looking uncomfortable on the left did his best to get City going.

Jackson sent a 57th minute ball across the box and a minute later, Proschwitz won a corner which was headed away.

Two minutes later and Burge flapped at a corner which had to be cleared off the line by Stokes and the Magpies had a 63rd minute corner which was flicked on to Burge's left hand post by Smith.

Notts were now having the better of the play, something which caused some of the home fans to find their voice.

Things needed changing so James Maddison was sent on for Simeon Jackson.

The City support appealed for a penalty when Nouble was pulled down but Mr Simpson awarded a goal kick and got the abuse from the City support that this incorrect decision deserved.

Carroll had to push over a speculative cross from Jordan Willis in the 72nd minute which was dipping in.

With fourteen minutes left, Samni Odelusi came on for Proschwitz.

County won a corner as did Adam Barton before the Notts County drummer came to life as Noble fired high into the Kop Stand.

Edwards took on for the team and was booked for bringing down Jim O'Brien and giving City a free kick which Ward wasted.

Stokes sent over a poor cross and deep in stoppage time Barton had a header from a free kick pushed over but there were no goals and two poor teams took a point each.
