Coventry City might have had their biggest gate for a game at Sixfields but it was the worst performance since the Sky Blues were dragged to Northampton and City were beaten 2-0 by Brentford.

Well, the war isn't over and does not look like being anytime soon after the comments this week by Joy Seppala that SISU will only bring Coventry City back to its rightful home when they fully own the Ricoh Arena or have a stadium which could on a fifteen acre site behind Brandon Stadium.

So, City were forced again to play at the ramshackle of a stadium that is Sixfields and fielded a side without Carl Baker who has a calf strain.

Adam Barton came in for a game that was watched by the likes of David Pleat, Karl Robinson, Steve Froggatt and Shaun Goater saw plenty of noise from the 914 Bees fans who were offered part of the stand opposite the Main Stand, which was busier than in previous games.

City, who had dropped back into the relegation zone following yesterday's results, attacked that end and immediately won a corner which led to another and in view of the fifty or so on the hill, next to the funfair.

A wicked tenth minute cross by Adam Barton ended going out for a throw and this was followed by Wilson heading a Christie cross wide.

There had just been a chorus of the Sky Blue Song from the City fans when Callum Wilson was just beaten by Richard Lee in the Brentford goal to a Leon Clarke header.

Brentford won their first corner of the game in the sixteenth minute and then another when Barton cleared.

Another two corners for the West Londoners followed before Moussa broke down the left and crossed for Clarke to fire at Lee.

The ball went straight upfield and there was Clayton Donaldson who made the most of a mistake by Cyrus Christie and slipped the ball past Murphy just after the twenty minute mark.

Leon Clarke fired wide as did Alan McCormack for a Brentford side winning everything in their air on a sunny afternoon in the 37th minute.

Three minutes later and the City defence stood and watched as Murphy saved from Donaldson with his legs.

Christie missed a header with a marker behind him and passes started to go astray so it was a blessing that the half ended and the group could re-group.

Adam Barton was replaced at the the break and Mathieu Manset came on and dropped in behind Wilson and Clarke in a 4-3-1-2 formation.

Lee pushed away a Leon Clarke shot for a corner, diving to his right either side of a couple of Brentford chances and the play acting of Martin Fillo who was accused by some in the Main Stand of conning the replacement.

Fleck drove over from twenty yards in the 55th minute. Brentford countered through Donaldson who crossed for Will Grigg to head wide as the City supporters berated the assistant on the Main Stand side for not being up with play.

On the hour mark, Murphy made a good save from Donaldson and then Fillo who was replaced by Saunders.

The City fans were in a foul mood and when Wilson was booked for diving or simulation, although what he was simulating remained to be seen, the crowd let Mr Boyeson have it with both barrels.

Lee made a great save from Wilson in the 66th minute. Again the visitors countered and it took a great save from Murphy to push a Forshaw pile driver round for a corner.

That came in and there was Martin Taylor to head in from a Saunders cross and put Brentford two goals up with 23 minutes left to play.

With too many players not on their game, (John Fleck got the sponsors Man Of The Match) getting back into this match was going to take something special but today, there was no fight and it was only thanks to some heroics from Joe Murphy late on that City went down to a 2-0 defeat.

After the game, some supporters leaving the match were abused by those on the hill and the police had to separate rowing factions.
