LEICESTER CITY 2-1 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City are still without an away win this season after losing the M69 derby.

In a city which was partially closed due to the various Diwali celebrations, you'd be forgiven for thinking that its citizens would be racially tolerant.Unfortunately, this is not the case and it was disappointing to hear that some Asian City supporters were racially abused as they made their way to the Crisp Bowl.

By the time this game, moved due to Leicester's rugby team having more importance in a city without the cultural heritage we treasure in Coventry, kicked off, there well over 2,000 Sky Blues supporters in the ground.

After the home fans had applauded the names of Scowcroft,Nallis,Heath and Impey in a City team which saw only one change, the Foxes were first to attack.

Right winger Momo Sylla fired over in the second minute and then won a corner which was easily cleared.

The noise level from the Coventry supporters rose in the 16th minute as Gary McSheffrey raced into the penalty area before going to ground and referee Mr Wright decided there was nothing doing.

Ejections had reached one apiece as City won a 21st minute corner.

Three minutes later and It was first blood to the Sky Blues. The move started down the right and when the ball came over GARY MCSHEFFREY lashed it in.

A couple of times, Clayton Ince had looked suspect but some stout defending kept City ahead even though Iain Hume should really have put away a 34th minute effort.

Ten minutes before the break, McSheffrey raced through,he went over the advancing Rab Douglas but all he received was a yellow card for seeking to gain an unfair advantage.

James Scowcroft joined him in the book two minutes later,as Dion Dublin who was jeered every time he touched the ball, nodded one wide.

On the stroke of half-time,Leicester equalised. A throw conceded by Richard Shaw was not cleared and with Ince flapping,MARK DE VRIES headed in from six yards.

Half time saw a steady stream of ejections and a goal for the home side within thirty seconds of the restart. Leicester won a corner. There was panic in the defence and MARK DE VRIES banged in from close range.
Despite being a goal down there was still some good humour amongst the City support taunted a Leicester fan in a pink shirt, causing more police and stewards to enter the away end.

In the 66th minute,Micky Adams who had been well chanted for by the City fans made a double change with Andy's Whing and Morrell coming on for Richard Duffy and Lillian Nallis.

In the 77th minute,Clayton Ince made a good diving save as everyone's attention was diverted to the sight of the police racing round to deal with an incident at the far end.

Ten minutes from time,Andy Morrell did well to get in a header which unfortunately Rab Douglas pushed over for a corner.

City were lacklustre up front again and unfortunately a draw never looked likely. Their failure to defend set-pieces is proving costly.
Hopefully, having Robert Page back for the Luton game on Saturday will help but unless the defence and attack start to do their jobs,we can expect more defeats like this and more misery.
