Coventry City face a replay on December 17th after letting Hartlepool come back and earn a 1-1 draw.
The FA Cup Second Round and a game for the hardcore support or lions led by donkeys like according to Tim Fisher this week, saw City supporters setting off very early from the likes of Basingstoke, Bristol and Kent to make it to Victoria Park.
City went into this tie having won the last four out of five away second round ties, but without strikers such as Leon Clarke, Callum Wilson and Chris Dagnall and loanee winger Chris Maguire, who had such a good debut at MK Dons last week.
So changes were made to a City team in their yellow away kit, with Billy Daniels in the line up which took to the pitch and got into a side once managed by City FA Cup hero Keith Houchen.
Playing a 4-5-1 formation, Carl Baker let rip with a stunning fifth minute shot which Flinders pushed over. Five minutes later and the City support and those watching around the world, saw Daniels round the keeper but fire wide.
Then out of nothing, the away end went mad when Carl Baker scored with a stunning volley from a Moussa ball.
I'd seen Hartlepool at Newport a few weeks and the League Two side played very much the same as they did in the first half of that league game, basically there for the taking.
City fashioned a great move in the 22nd which Blair Adams headed wide and Pools replied with a corner which Murphy got down to and Jordan Clarke cleared. Five minutes before the break,
Andy Webster, who partnered Danny Seaborne well, made three excellent headers initially from a corner and just before the break, another good Murphy save from a corner sent City into the break a goal to the good.
Colin Cooper sent on Anthony Sweeney for the second half as the excellent noise from the 541 strong City support continued, matching a good work rate from the Sky Blues.
A hack from Seabourne gave the home side a 57th minute free kick which was headed wide.
A worrying spell of pressure saw Hartlepool win a corner and then a 63rd minute free kick and another corner in the 68th minute.
For the last twenty minutes, Courtney Baker-Richardson, City U18's top scorer was brought on.
Carl Baker, who looked particularly off colour, went up front with him but in the 77th minute, the home side broke and Andy Monkhouse planted a free header past Murphy.
Baker-Richardson, the 52nd Coventry born player to play for City's first team, fired over but it will be a replay on December 17th.
