City Get First Win Under Robins

Coventry City won their first game under Mark Robins with a 2-1 win over Port Vale.

With the doom and gloom surrounding Coventry City having plunged to even lower levels following Tim Fisher's attending a Sky Blue Trust open meeting and failing to acknowledge that he and those he includes in the hiring and promoting up of staff to levels beyond their capabilities, are one of the main reasons for the club's downfall, the Sky Blues took on Port Vale in a re-arranged game at the Ricoh Arena.

City with the worst record in the division took on a Port Vale team with the second worst away record and in relegation trouble themselves on what had been a pleasant day in Coventry which got colder as the night went on.

Mark Robins who is to meet Tim Fisher tomorrow to talk about recruitment, and who is said to not be impressed with the "We've had a shot" chants which have been prominent since he took over for a second time, named a team which included Kwame Thomas, Stuart Beavon and Gael Bigirimana.

Vale had an early corner but it was poor and City got the ball up to George Thomas who was offside.

Vale had another corner in the third minute. Again, that was cleared and Gael Bigirimana got in a shot at Deniz Mehmet. That immediately brought the "We've had a shot" chants from a small group to the left of the scoreboard.

To be fair, there was plenty of support for the Sky Blues from this corner as Thomas volleyed wide from twenty yards in the 18th minute.

Now four hundred minutes without a goal and City conceded another corner in the 22nd minute which was again wasted by Michael Brown's side.

In the 36th minute, it was chants of We've scored a goal" as Kyle Reid  got the ball about 25 yards beat two and thumped a beltefr of a shot past Mehmet on his right and into the net.

Five minutes later and City had a second goal when Beavon slipped the ball across and Kwame Thomas bundled home from six yards.

Billy Reeves was a silly Billy and got booked because he could not deal with City's midfield and was replaced at half-time.

For once, it was the opposition booing their team off at the break and the away support were less than impressed as Kyel Reid continued to dance round the Vale players.

It was now "Mark Robins Sky Blue Army as Reid fired wide in the 51st minute.

Two Vale corners were easily cleared before Beavon flicked wide from a move he started.

Chris Eagles turned and shot and it was the Vale fans who cheered and sang " We've had a shot" in the 58th minute and again when a free kick sailed over the bar on the hour mark.

Burge did well to push round a Taylor volley and then punch away the corner,

With a gate of 7695, announced, City had Callum Reilly fire at Mehmet and a corner in the 70th minute which Mehmet just grabbed.

As the police went into the scoreboard section, Port Vale pulled a goal back when Nathan Smith sent a back header past the off his line Burge in the 74th minute.

Vale now had their bit between their teeth and after Tavares had come on, Burge spilled a shot from the right.

Jodi Jones came on for the last nine minutes for City who also sent Chris Stokes in place of Kyel Reid who got the ovation his performance deserved.

Gael Bigirimana also got plenty of applause for his hard work as a Vale corner was cleared and George Thomas broke only for Mehmet to block.

City kept going in the four minutes of stoppage time and took the win.
