Coventry City won their second EFL Trophy Southern Section Group D game with a 3-1 win over Northampton Town.

With many supporters giving this game a miss due to not supporting the competition format, admission prices, difficulties in attending midweek matches, etc only the main stand at the Ricoh Arena was open for the City supporters who did bother along with the handfuls of away fans.

City were ahead after 21 seconds when Danny Agyei scored with a cracking finish. The lead lasted seventy seconds as Marc Richards beat Lee Burge.

In the seventh minute, Jodi Jones worked himself free and beat Cornell with a lovely drive to put City 2-1 up.

Both sides had chances but in the 66th minute and with almost his first touch, Ruben Lameiras got through and lobbed Cornell for City's third goal of the evening and seventh in this competition.
