BARNSLEY 0-1 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS
Wayne Andrews proved to be a super sub as he came on to score and give City a 1-0 win at Barnsley.
With Stern John out due to a foot injury,Micky Adams brought back Dele Adebola for our visit to Oakwell since 2001.
Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie brought in former Sky Blues Martin Devaney and left Colin Healy and Cov kid Danny Nardiello on the bench.
Regular readers of my reports will know that I'm all in favour of "up and at em from the start" and backed by an excellent following of 1,185 City supporters, this is what happened.
Nick Colgan had to palm away a Colin Cameron first minute corner and three minutes later,Kevin Kyle headed wide.
Dele Adebola back in a 4-3-3 formation also headed over whilst Barnsley won two corners in a busy opening sixteen minutes.
In the 26th minute,Clive Clarke went off to be replaced by Marcus Hall. The loanee from Sunderland looked ok physically as he trooped off the pitch but had not been feeling well before the game.
Hall, who injured a medial ligament at Southend, not as badly as some areas of the media made out, slotted in at his usual left back position in a well marshalled back four.
When Barnsley did attack,Andy Marshall was in fine form, diving low to save 33rd minute Paul Hayes eight yarder and then diving to his left to push away a Devaney forceful drive.
On the hour mark,Jay Tabb who shined for the Reserves on Tuesday against Cardiff came on for Colin Cameron.
In the 62nd minute,Leon McKenzie produced the best move of the match when he raced goalwards only to see his shot blocked.
Cov kid and son of former Sky Blue Donato Danny Nardiello was sent on with Richie later bringing on Colin Healy who was well received.
City, whose team coach had broken down en route to this Yorkshire enclave, were by now lacking any urgency lumping balls into the air in the hope that Adebola and Kyle would win them.

This brought a chant of "Hallelujah" from the disgruntled City support following a tame Tabb shot as Barnsley went close on a couple of occasions.
With six minutes to go, Wayne Andrews was sent on for Leon McKenzie. The move was not well received by some of the City fans who chanted "You Don't Know What You're Doing" at Adams, feeling that Kevin Kyle or Dele Adebola should have been the one to go as Barnsley were a lot stronger in the air than on the deck.
Whilst this was happening,Wayne Andrews on his debut cut inside and with his second touch of the ball stroked it into the far corner of the net.
Adams, stared at the City fans in disgust and gesticulated by cupping his hand to his ear before legging it down the tunnel on the final whistle as the rest of the players celebrated a just about deserved victory.
