Wood Relishing Clarke Addition

Coventry City defender Richard Wood has said that he is relishing the prospect of Leon Clarke playing for the Sky Blues.

Wood played with Clarke at Sheffield Wednesday and told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “I’m looking forward to him coming in,” said Wood; “I used to train with him day in and day out and he’s a good signing for us.

“He’s strong and powerful, as he showed when he scored twice against us for Scunthorpe this season, and he’s not slow either. He’s got good power, good feet and he can strike a ball just as well with his left as his right.

“He’s been at a few clubs and scored goals for fun. I don’t know why he hasn’t settled down somewhere but he’s a good lad and hopefully he will stay with us for a good while.

“With the confidence we’ve got just now, he should settle in straight away and hopefully he can get some goals for us, whether or not David stays on.

“I don’t know if Tuesday will be his last game. He hasn’t said much to me about it but he knows that everyone at the club wants him to stay. He’s loving it here – who wouldn’t when you are scoring like he is every week – but what will be, will be; we can’t affect it.

“It would be a blow if he left because he showed his quality on Boxing Day. He missed a clear chance in the first minute and missed a few others as well but he kept going and scored a great goal at the end.

“It’s a shame he will miss the Milton Keynes game – we thought he might get away without a booking because he had another yellow shirt underneath the one he took off.

“We’ll be without James Bailey as well and he’s been a big player for us as well, but we’ve got players who can come in and fill those gaps.

“Confidence is sky-high at the moment; there’s a really good feeling in the camp and we believe there is only one way we can go from here.

“We had a poor start to the season, but we’re on a great run now, confidence is sky high and we want to get into the play-off positions as quick as we can and see how we go from there.

“We always knew we had good players here and it was just a case of working hard and making sure we battle with teams first – overcome that and then the quality would shine through.”
