Wood backing Shaw for manager

Richard Wood, like most of his team mates, is hoping that caretaker boss Richard Shaw will be given the post permanently, but he is hoping the last two performances under Shaw's leadership doesn't count against him.

Wood, who was the subject of transfer speculation linking him with a move back to his old club Sheffield Wednesday prior to the closing of the transfer window, has secured a place in the starting line up under Shaw.

Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Wood said: “It’s frustrating, the players are all behind Shawsy and know that if we do well then hopefully everything else will take care of itself.

“Richard has got the message across that it’s not good enough and we all know that and I am sure the fans can see that so it’s up to us, the players, to put it right.”

Despite the speculation surrounding his future at Coventry, Wood, who has one year left on his three and a half year contract, has kept focus on his own performance and fitness.

He revealed: “I’ve just kept focused on my football. As far as I was concerned it was just speculation. I just want to play here at Coventry every week and help the club get promoted.

“I always give 100 per cent in training and in games and whoever is in charge this season; hopefully it will be Shawsy, I want to show them that I am their centre-half every week.

“I want to get fit and get playing games because I missed the end of last season with my knee injury and hopefully my form will get better and better as I get fitter.”
