Winning Was More Important Than Goal Says Doyle

Michael Doyle produced a cracking goal to win the game against Burnley on Saturday, but later said he would have preferred it if King had scored rather than him.

"It is nice to try to chip in with a few from midfield but I would have been happier on Saturday if Marlon had scored because I believe that once he gets one he will get a hat full for us," he said to the CT.

"I think my last goal was against Blackburn in the Cup in February 2009, but it was just nice to get one, but the main thing was getting the win because we have been unlucky in the previous games that we lost."

"Gary McSheffrey had a great free kick and Lee Carsley had a good shot so we were unlucky in the first half. It was a scrappy game but I thought that if anyone was going to win it, it was going to be us. It is nice to get off that bad run and hopefully this is the start of a good one."

Doyle wants to see his club do well in the Championship whether he is playing or not, but while he is playing due to the absence of Sammy Clingan, he is especially keen not to be in a losing side.

He explained: "People like myself and James McPake have come into the team and we just want to get winning again because when you are losing you feel like you are the monkey that the team can't win with you in there, but hopefully we can get on a run now."
