Coventry Sphinx continued their good run with a 1-0 win at Continental Star.

With a number of players unavailable, Sphinx boss Luke Hopkins changed his side against a Continental Star side which had lost their first four games of the season.

Sphinx got off to a great start when Jackson played a ball down the channel to Dainty, a good cross saw Kyle Rhodes turn on a sixpence and Ashley Wilks was there to fire high into the net from close range.

Geo Dainty went on a run but just as he was aiming for goal, he was stopped by a superb block by the Star left back.

The home side had a glorious chance in the 20th minute when the up and under style of Star deceived O'Neill and the ball fell for the totally unmarked Sterling. With the goal at his mercy, he skied over the bar.

With Danny Webb on for Kyle Rhodes who had picked up a knock on his knee following an unpunished foul, Wilks lashed a shot wide before O'Neill punched away a Star corner.

In the 32nd minute, Cobourne went very close of O'Neill's right hand post as the sun came out at the home of Rushall Olympic FC.

Just before the break, the home side had another good chance when Hamilton fired over from a Reid cross.

Sphinx won a corner forty seconds into the second half, followed by Webb going close with a bicycle kick eight minutes later.

Jackson flicked at the keeper following a free kick and Dainty got onto a long ball over but could not get the touch he required.

In the 58th minute, Star were awarded a free kick for a handball which thankfully ended in the hands of O'Neill.

Luke Hopkins sent on Adam Bilic on the hour mark and the midfielder was involved straight away having a shot blocked by Ellis' legs.

In the 73rd minute, Geo Dainty got in a lovely header and it looked a goal until Robinson got in the way to clear for a corner. Wilks beat Ellis who had charged out of his goal but the ball went wide of the empty net.

Sphinx with Ricky Fletcher commanding at centre half and some good performances from the likes of Ricky Hill, Dainty, Dyke and Sullivan, kept looking for a second goal.

Ashley Jackson, another who worked hard for the Sphinx cause, fired at the keeper and good work from Webb set up Bilic for a shot which went wide.

With four minutes to go, a great ball found Wilks who thumped Ellis' right hand post.

Ritson made a brilliant block in the final minute of normal time stopping a Salmon close range shot to ensure that Sphinx took the win.
