Whingy Mulling Over The Options

Former Coventry City defender Andrew Whing is currently considering his options.

Whing, a product of City's Academy, who scored the last ever league goal at Highfield Road and played an heroic part which saw City win the Birmingham Senior Cup in 2007, is currently at Brighton & Hove Albion but has a number of options.

"I have played 99 games in two years at Brighton and, more than anything, a regular place has given me consistency to my game," said Whing to the CT.

"I have shown that when I get a run in a team my confidence and form get better and I was missing that at Coventry where it was stop-start and I didn't really play a lot of games on a consistent basis. "Rather than playing 15, 20 and 25 games in a row I was playing five or six and then out for five or six.

"I was disappointed to leave Coventry but sometimes you need to take a step down to move forwards.

"My first year at Brighton was all about getting games and getting my confidence back but this last season has been really positive, ending with me getting Player of the Season.

"It is a shame I left City because I had come through the ranks and it would have been nice to go on to establish myself in the first team.

"But I have had a fantastic two years at Brighton where I have proved that I can play consistently in League One.

"It is a great club and I would like to stay but I have a number of options and I am mulling things over at the moment.

"The next step up for me would be Championship football and I don't think I was out of place when I played there before."
