Whing Hoping To Be Back

Andy Whing who is on loan at Brighton hopes to be back on Saturday for the Seagulls after suffering a nasty eye injury during the 1-1 draw with Northampton.

The Covsupport sponsored right back told Brighton's Evening Argus: "All I remember was Kerry whipping the ball in. My eyes were focused on the ball, I was going to head it and I hit a brick wall. As soon as I fell to the ground I knew something had happened. I had blood on my hands.

"I was in so much pain that I thought I had a broken cheekbone. My face was pouring with blood. It was probably the most pain I've ever felt on a football pitch. I couldn't even tell you who did it. I didn't know it was the goalkeeper involved until later.

"The cut was right next to my right eye and I had to see a specialist to stitch the wound up," he said. "I had five or six stitches on the groove of my right eye. It's quite a nasty one. The eye is fine, a bit closed, but not too bad."

Northampton boss John Gorman played down claims that Whing was punched whilst Brighton boss Dean Wilkins told his club's website: "We let Micky Adams know what has happened - but he is happy for him to remain with us and we're hopeful he will return to training this week."
