Westwood Looking For Ireland Move Up

Coventry City keeper Keiren Westwood is hoping that good performances for the Sky Blues will help him break into the Republic Of Ireland team.

So far, Westwood has not been able to dislodge Shay Given and former Sky Blue Dean Kiely in the Irish pecking order but the Manchester born keeper will keep trying.

"I think that's right but while I am there I will just try to learn as much as I can from Dean and Shay, but the ultimate goal is to keep improving and if the manager wants to move me up and put me on the bench that's entirely up to him," said Westwood to the CT.

"I have just got to keep playing every week and doing well for Coventry and hopefully my performances will allow me to do that.

"Giovanni Trapattoni was at QPR away which was a decent game apart from the last minute goal. "He was there for Reading away when we were pummelled 3-1 so every time he's there I seem to get smashed.

"But there is no added pressure if he's there. It just means you have to have a good game and show him that you are good enough. I am hearing good things and he likes the way I play, so he has got confidence in me."
