Sheffield United have sacked manager David Weir and Assistant Lee Carsley.

Many expected the duo to be ousted after Sunday's game against Coventry City due to the poor form which has seen United win only once this season.

However, the board have acted and removed them and have put Chris Morgan in charge of the team in a caretaker capacity.

City boss Steven Pressley celebrating his 40th Birthday today, said to the Coventry Telegraph: “It goes with the territory.

“David was clearly going through a tough period, but they brought him in to change the club, change the style of football, so you have to expect transitional period.

"That takes time so was important that the supporters and everybody connected with the club to believe in him because he’s a very knowledgeable man and I’m sure that, given time and support, he would have turned things round.

“We played alongside each other for club and country and I always sympathise with managers going through a bad time because I’ve been there myself – in my early days at Falkirk there were periods when people were calling for my head.

“It tests you but David is a strong character, a very experienced football man I’m sure he could have completed the job he was brought there to do.”
