Whilst a number of City supporters were in Geneva watching England in a superb 3-2 victory over Argentina thanks to two goals from Michael Owen and one from Wayne Rooney,Trinidad & Tobago were in a World Cup play-off first leg against Bahrain.

With Stern John starting on the bench and not coming on until the 82nd minute and no place for Clayton Ince who was behind Kelvin Jack and Shaka Hislop in the Trinidad keepers pecking order, Bahrain took the lead in the 72nd minute through Husein Salman only for Port Vale's Chris Burchill to level the tie five minutes later and give the Gulf State the advantage going into the second leg on Wednesday.

Other World Cup Qualifying saw Spain thrash Slovakia 5-1,Uruguay beat Australia 1-0, Czech Republic win 1-0 in Norway and Switzerland beat Turkey 2-0. Steven Pressley and Gary Caldwell played in Scotland's 1-1 draw with the USA.

Avun Jephcott scored for Ards yesterday but could not stop the Northern Irish Premier Division side currently playing home matches at Bangor from going down to a 3-1 home defeat against Ballymena United. Another former Sky Blue Tom Bates played the whole game whilst Covsupport sponsored Brian Adair was substituted in the second half due to injury.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough beat Vauxhall Motors 3-2 at Manor Park, Bedworth United were beat 5-2 at home by Sutton Coldfield Town in the FA Trophy. Rugby Town drew 0-0 at Northwood, Leamington also drew 1-1 at home to Quorn whilst Stratford lost 2-1 at Tipton. There was some good news with Marcus Law's Racing Club Warwick winning 3-0 at Oadby Town.
In the Midland Combination Premier Division, Coventry Sphinx won 5-2 away at Nuneaton Griff. Adam Kinder scored twice for Sphinx with a Craig Civzelis penalty,a Mark Owen strike and an own goal on the score sheet for Paul Charnley's side. Top of the table Atherstone Town beat Alveston 3-1. Coventry Copsewood drew 2-2 at Brocton but Massey Ferguson lost 2-0 at Bolehall Swifts.

Warwick Town drew 1-1 at Earlswood,Kenilworth lost 3-1 at home to Burntwood whilst Stockingford won 1-0 at Heather Athletic. In Division Three, Coventry Sphinx Reserves kept their supporters waiting until the second half for some goals. It took Lee Knibbs side 64 minutes to break down a spirited Chelmsley Town side. Calum Woodward made the break through with substitute Nicky Martin scoring with his first touch of the ball two minutes later. In the last minute, goals from Paul John and Sanchez McBean wrapped up a 4-0 victory for Sphinx.

Coventry City Ladies are without a fixture after being knocked out of the Women's FA Cup by Northampton Town in the previous round.
