Whilst some City supporters were enjoying the delights of Amsterdam to see England's 1-1 draw with Holland, Steve Staunton's Republic of Ireland beat San Marino 5-0 at Lansdowne Road. Robbie Keane scored a hat-trick for Ireland with former Sky Blue Lee Carsley also in the starting eleven.

Trinidad & Tobago were beaten 4-1 in Austria.

Coventry Sphinx crashed out of the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup with a 6-0 home Second Round defeat against Rushall Olympic Reserves. Sphinx boss Paul Charnley fielded a mix of first and reserve teamers including Covsupport sponsored Danny McSheffrey.

The visitors took a 33rd minute lead through Luke Bradley and increased that in the 53rd minutes through Adam Edmunds. Ben Porter then blasted a hat-trick scoring in the 55th,72nd and 79th minutes with Richard Anslow netting the sixth with six minutes to go.
