Coventry City forward Cody McDonald has said that the players were also disappointed with the defeat at Nuneaton Town on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Blue Player, McDonald, who came on as a substitute and should have earned a draw when he hit the post in the 86th minute, said: "I think as a whole, we were a bit disappointed with the way we performed because we lacked in a few areas.
"But this is what pre-season is for and we will be looking to improve as the season gets closer. The main thing is not the results in pre-season but getting the fitness right.
"We know we have to work on our shape now so we can move forward and get our performances right before the serious matches begin."
