We Need Runners And Targets - Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has stressed the need for runners and target men for his team.

Mowbray, who hopes to bring in a player on loan before tomorrow's game at Cambridge United and two or more before Saturday, told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: "James Maddison and Ruben Lameiras linked together well, allowed us to get people up the pitch, and the front four contributed to an excellent goal.

“But they aren’t the sort of players who burst in behind people; they need runners, targets they can pick out, so we’re looking for people with pace who are able to do that.

"Football is easy with great players – if I had Christiano Ronaldo on the right wing and Lionel Messi playing in a false centre-forward position we’d score a lot of goals and win a lot of games.

“But we’re in a position where we’re looking for young boys who want to establish themselves and build a career in football and that’s why it’s important we make the right decisions now.

“It become’s very difficult when the assets and quality aren’t there and you’re stuck with a team that you don’t particularly like.

“I found that at my last football club when the money was all spent– not by me, by the way – but we had a team that wasn’t functioning. I don’t want to be in that position again.”
