We Lacked Punch -Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that the Sky Blues lacked punch in their 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

Speaking about the game which saw two goals for Paul Cook's side in the first half before George Thomas pulled a goal back for City in the 53rd minute with a stunning run and lob, Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “It’s all about the balance of the team. We were all right up to a point but you need that cutting edge, that threat in and around the box.

"We lacked punch - we know that, we know what we’re missing and hopefully we’ll be able to do something about that in the next few weeks.

“You have to be patient because managers are still working out which players they are prepared to send out on loan.

“If we had a stadium to play in at the moment we’d be playing Championship sides or perhaps even Premier League, but this is the next best thing.

“The game gave our midfielders and the defence a platform to realise that they have to be decent out of possession. We lost one goal from a set-play and another one to a breakaway in the 45th minute so that’s something that we have to look at.

“We missed Chris Stokes  – he felt a bit tight in the warm-up – and although young Dion Kelly-Evans came in and did really well for us he got caught out for that second goal. But that’s how you learn and we’ll improve on things like that.”
