"But the fact is that have to do better than we did today. When you come to a team whose home form has been a struggle the last thing you need to do is give away a goal after two minutes.

"We defended the corner but they put in a terrific cross and it was one of those situations where you need to win the man-to-man battle and we didn't.

"That gave them a lot of confidence and their second goal was another terrific finish but again it was a bread-and-butter goal - a one-two where we didn't match their run.

"We came here with a plan of how we wanted to play and confident that this was a game we could win but it ended up with us playing like we were the home team while that early goal allowed them to play to their system and hit us in the counter-attack which they did to good effect.

"We came in at half-time two goals down having played reasonably well on the face of it but there's no point having as much of the ball as we did at times if you're not more ruthless;

"The last 15 minutes were damage limitation although we had a couple of forays forward and we had one really good chance at the death but our scoreline reads blank and there's no doubt that over the piece they created the better opportunities.

"The statistics tell you we need to boost our attack in the New Year and I'm not talking about a striker I'm talking about a creative player - somebody who can eliminate players in the final third and make a difference.

"At times today young James showed those flashes but I think we need somebody else in the building who can do that and turn our domination of the ball into good chances.

"I'm really disappointed, especially for our supporters who again travelled in their numbers, but the one good thing about this time of year is that we've got a chance to put things right within 48 hours.
