Coventry City midfielder Gary McSheffrey has said that he is taking City’s battle to avoid relegation personally.

McSheffrey who scored in the 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday, told Sky Blue Player: "I am of course taking the situation pretty personally as I am from here. All the players obviously care a great deal for the club and are also taking it personally I'm sure.

"You never want to be relegated but I have a lot of friends who come to the games and watch week in, week out.

"They are my critics and I can't get away with anything really as they will call me up on it. You have to take it personally.

“If you don't, then you will get found out and we have got a dressing room in there that really care about this football club. That has definitely contributed to our run of form at the moment.

"I think we have been playing really well and because we got something against Cardiff in the week, it gives us a lot of confidence, the confidence to keep pushing towards safety."
