We Got What We Deserved - Pressley

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley felt that City got what they deserved in the 5-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:“That was without doubt the poorest performance of the season – the result and the stats tell you that – and a stark reminder that we’re maybe not quite the team people started to think we are.

“I’m not going to be overly critical of this group of players, because their attitude this season has been top-level. We’ve been receiving a lot of plaudits for the way we’ve been playing, but this proved that if we don’t perform to the levels we’ve set ourselves, then we’re perhaps not as good a team as we’d like to believe – and if we start to believe that we’re better than we are, then we have a problem.

“We got what we deserved and I’ve no complaints. Tranmere played particularly well but we allowed them to do that – we didn’t apply ourselves and it’s cost us dearly.

“We didn’t have that intensity which is such a big part of our game and we obviously have to be tighter. We work a lot on distances between players and the ability to recover when we lose possession and with four of the five goals that was terrible.

“We were so open and vulnerable to the counter. That’s something we work very hard on and if we drop below our levels we’ll get found out and I don’t think there were too many positives to take from that game.”
