Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd felt the season got off to a good start with the 2-0 victory over Portsmouth this afternoon at the Ricoh Arena.

Speaking to the BBC, Aidy Boothroyd said: "Pre-season is about getting things right and the season is a chance to get off to a good start and we did that today against a very good side."

Speaking to Sky Blues Player, Boothroyd said: "We've got off to a good start against a very good team, we started quickly and created trouble for Portsmouth early on and I'm especially pleased for Freddy to have got his goals.

"I thought his contribution to the team today was absolutely outstanding, he was doing the important things and working hard without the ball and he got his just desserts for that.

"We've still got a long way to go with nine months slog of game after game but I'm excited about it.

"We've got some good players who will make it tough for each other so we just need to get ourselves organised for the next game."
