We Did Not Deliver- Hopkins

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins felt that his side failed to deliver in their 2-0 home defeat to Quorn on Saturday.

“We looked like we had played for 5 weeks,” Hopkins told the Sphinx website about his side’s first league match of 2014.

“It was a credit to the Groundsman and Committee that the game was on, but we just didn't deliver the desire and commitment that their work deserved.

“The pitch was wet, as could be expected and it was never going to be a classic total football exhibition. Once the game had kicked off, in came the wind and we spent the first 45 minutes in our own half, conceding seemed likely just with the wind killing us.

“We got in at half time one goal down but reshaped and thought we would have the majority of play. We started the second half well and had chances. If we make it 1-1 or even 2-1 up it’s a different game, then Quorn scored on the break to make it 2-0.

“The conditions were the same for both so that's no excuse, they looked more match sharp, so lack of fixtures hasn't helped us, but what I can't accept was that their passion, desire and commitment was way better than ours. That a large part of the game at our level.

“We will train hard and try to make the right decision making second nature again as it was six weeks ago but we have a tough time ahead with the fixture build up.”
