We Deserved The Win - Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray felt that his side deserved the 4-0 victory over Millwall.

Speaking about the 4-0 win at The New Den which sent City top of the League One table with a brace from Adam Armstrong and goals from Ruben Lameiras and Jim O'Brien, Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “Who knows how the game would have gone if we’d gone 1-0 down, would we have been as relaxed as we were, played out football the way we planned?

It’s in the history books now but I think we were the better team; I think we deserved to win.

“Armstrong needs a lot of credit for the opening goal. Two minutes earlier the keeper had come steaming out of his box, playing like a sweeper – I’m assuming they thought he needed to help out the central defenders because Armstrong is so fast – but when he got the ball he didn’t even look; he knew the keeper was going to be on the edge of his box.

“That just shows his quality, playing the football match in his brain.”

“I know how hard it is to come to the New Den; their budget is huge by the standards of this league so they have to have a good season. A lot of teams will really struggle here, so I’m glad that one is out of the way.

“We rode our luck a little bit on the clean sheet but it’s great for confidence because the players manage their own expectations.”
