We Are Heading In The Right Direction - Ranson

Coventry City Chairman Ray Ranson has said that he feels that the club are heading in the right direction.

In his latest email to supporters via the club's ezine, Mr Ranson said: "It's been a busy couple of weeks - as I am sure you will have realised!

I have said for a while that I am not a great fan of the transfer window but we have to operate under that system and make the best of it.

We are extremely pleased with the business we managed to get done during January both in and out and hopefully you will all see this as further evidence of what we are aiming to achieve at the football club.

I was delighted that we secured the signatures of both James McPake and David Bell on long term contracts and also that we received transfer fees for players who were out of contract in the summer.

It has to be a two way thing. While we look to strengthen the squad, we cannot afford to have players who are neither committed to us long-term or do not figure in the manager's future plans.

At the moment, I believe we are certainly heading in the right direction and, again, we will look to strengthen further in the summer regardless of how the rest of this season pans out.

To that end, we also want to keep hold of our best players and, while some of the rumours doing the rounds as the window came towards a close were incorrect, naturally there was interest from clubs.

Whilst the result at Derby was disappointing I was encouraged by the words of their chairman Adam Pearson after the game, who said people in football recognise what we are trying to achieve and that Derby are going to adopt a similar strategy with a their new young manager Nigel Clough.

At the time of writing this piece, the staff here are all working very hard to ensure that Saturday's massive game against Wolves goes ahead. But with the great British weather, you never know what might be round the corner.

But we are hoping for a good crowd and great atmosphere and would dearly love the three points against our Midlands rivals and the division's top team.

And, just one final note, we have arranged to subsidise coach travel up to next weekend's FA Cup tie with Blackburn Rovers so it will cost just £10 to get to Ewood Park with an official CCFC coach.

We are, where we can, doing everything possible to help you, our supporters, in these difficult financial times."
