Coventry City midfielder Jay Tabb had backed Elliott Ward after his penalty miss at Sheffield United on Tuesday night.

Normally, deadly from the penalty spot, Ward missed three minutes into the second half and Tabb has lept to his defence.

"Wardy scored some really important penalties for us last season and even though this one didn't go in we still had chances to win the game after so no-one is going to blame him for that," said Tabb to the club website.

"He does enough of a good job at the back so one missed penalty doesn't mean to much as far as we're concerned. A penalty is just another version of a one-on-one, it's one of those kinds of chances and players miss them all the time.

"But even so, I though we were the better side throughout the game but unfortunately sometimes it's just the way results go and the point we've got shows that."
