Waggott Looking At Scouting Issue

Coventry City CEO Steve Waggott is putting together a network of scouts to help Tony Mowbray.

The City boss admitted at a Coventry City Diamond Club lunch last week that the club had no scouting system in place and speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Steve Waggott said:  “I have been assembling a new scouting network to serve Tony and the club into the future.

“For a club such as ours scouts play a vital role on two levels. They are the trusted eyes and ears of the manager at games around the country.

"They have to provide essential intelligence on other teams in the division to allow the manager to plan tactically for forthcoming fixtures.

“They are also the talent spotters, and they have to be able to see a player’s strengths and shortcomings, and be able to analyse how that individual may or may not fit into our first team or strengthen our squad in a vital area.

“Those scouts are often reflective of the manager’s ethos, so there is usually a change when the manager’s baton is handed on, but I am using this as an opportunity to build a network which will provide the consistency and longevity we need, but also requiring the requisite expertise.”
