Vincelot Wanted To Go - Mowbray

Tony Mowbray told Coventry City supporters at the game against Newport County that Romain Vincelot wanted to leave the Sky Blues.

Speaking to a number of supporters who were demanding answers about thirty minutes before kick off, Mowbray told those present that Romain Vincelot wanted to go and doubled his money with City happy that they had made more than their money back on him.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph after the game:

“Romain was more than happy and it was a good deal for the club. I know we’re losing a very talented boy who was fantastic for us last year – I sat with him in my office and talked it through and we decided it was right for him, right for me.

“I wish him well and, as I said to him in the office last night, I hope that Coventry and Bradford are the top two teams in the division next season.

“I have to ask the fans to trust what we’re trying to do and sometimes you have to sell an asset so you can build.

“I know that on occasions in the past those sales haven’t come to fruition with reinvestment but I’m pretty sure in my mind that we can trust the owners and the board.

“It means that if we have to pay a small fee somewhere along the line for a footballer I feel is going to be crucial to the way we move forward we can.

“I’m trying to create an infrastructure at the club and sometimes that’s very difficult to do. I manage Coventry City as if I’m going to be here for the next ten years – I might not be here in three months if we don’t win any matches of course.

“But I’m trying to make the club better. Sometimes when you make really tough decisions as I did with Romain yesterday it doesn’t seem the right one so there’s frustration and anger but the supporters have to trust me as the manager because I’m only doing it for what I see is the benefit of the club.

“Hopefully there will be new heroes for the supporters as I build a team in the image I want to see.
