Venus: System Change Was My Fault

Last updated : 02 November 2016 By CNS Sport

Coventry City Interim Manager and Otium Director Mark Venus admitted that changing the formation was his fault.

Venus, a man whom a number of supporters feel would be better leaving footballing matters to Nicky Eaden who has been doing great things with City U23's, switched to a 4-4-2 formation and told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole about the 2-0 win over Chesterfield: “We were lucky to come in at 0-0 but I have to take the blame for that. I changed the system due to some circumstances and I haven’t done enough work with the boys on that formation. It didn’t work.

“We spoke pretty honestly and openly and I feel we got a response second half. We came alive, did things simpler and better, and played forward. And we got a goal from a setpiece which we haven’t done all season so that’s another big plus for us. We’re riding our luck but it’s a god record to have, something we’re trying every week to stretch.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do - I think we all know that. I’m still learning about them as players, learning which ones I can trust and they’ve got to step up to the plate because I want 20 players here who can be effective.”
