According to BBC Radio Newcastle, former Coventry City loanee Patrick Van Aanholt is close to completing a move to Sunderland.
The Dutchman had been at Chelsea but has been out on loan at a number of clubs including Vitesse Arnhem for the last two and a half seasons.
Van Aanholt, who was left out of Holland's World Cup squad, has a year left on his Chelsea contract.
