Two City Old Boys Play For Ireland

Two former Coventry City players played for the Republic Of Ireland in a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica.

At the PPL Park in Philadelphia, former Sky Blues Robbie Keane, making his 132nd appearance and Richard Keogh started for Ireland, who did not take Coventry City keeper Joe Murphy on this tour.

Kevin Doyle gave Ireland a 17th minute lead with a header before Costa Rica were reduced to ten men when Doyle was elbowed by Geancarlo Gonzales in the 42nd minute and the referee from Honduras produced a red card, leaving an angry Doyle with a gash to his left eye which needed treatment.

In the 63rd minute, Celso Borges drew Costa Rica level after David Forde conceded a penalty and three minutes later, Quinn was brought down and Robbie Keane stepped up to take the resulting spot kick but it was saved. 

Robbie Keane was replaced in the 84th minute as the match finished in a draw.
