Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Billy Davies.

The Scot, who came to Nottingham on January 1st 2009, had taken Forest to two play-offs but today had his contract terminated with immediate effect.

Forest have confirmed on their club website that they are talking to former Derby and England manager Steve McClaren about taking over from the former Preston and Derby manager.

As expected, Alex McLeish has resigned as manager of Birmingham City. The Scot is away in Amsterdam on business and resigned via email.

McLeish, whose last signing for Birmingham City was Marlon King from Coventry City, has been touted as the next manager of Aston Villa and may bring keeper Ben Foster and former Coventry City defender Scott Dann with him.
