Coventry City defender Ben Turner has said that he wants to be in the City side for the opening Championship game of the season against Ipswich Town on Sunday August 9th (Kick off at 12.45).

"A lot of people have said Scotty moving is good for me because I can push for that regular place right from the start of the season, which is something I have never had before, and that's what I am aiming to do," said Turner to the CT.

"I want to be in the team when we kick off against Ipswich but at the same time, if it doesn't happen - which it hasn't in the previous two seasons, but I have still managed to play more than half the games - then I will just try to prove my worth by the end of the season.

"But the target is to play the first game of the season if possible."

He added: "I am not sure whether Scott going makes it easier for me to get in the team because this time last year James McPake wasn't here so he's another player vying for the spot who wasn't here last year.

"I think the manager has spoken to Stephen Wright, who is going to be asked to play centre-back a few times this year, and that's probably down to how well he did when asked to play there last season. So there is still lots of competition there with Elliott Ward as well - it's going to be hard."
