Coventry City defender Ben Turner has been reflecting on the serious injury woes of his club and the fight for Championship survival.

Turner is recovering from a knee operation which will keep him out of action until next season. He had to have surgery on his troublesome knee as it wasn't healing naturally.

Turner commented on the form of his side and the catalogue of injuries to key payers in the Sky Blues squad after he was sidelined through injury

He said to the CT: "There is never a good time to be injured but with me and James McPake (Pictured below) being injured there has been a lot of pressure on Richard Wood to be fit for every game and I do feel for him because he has been like a wounded soldier for months on end and been in the mind-set of one more game, one more game, and he's put the club before himself and pushed himself one step too far. It is unfortunate because he would have been able to get his breather when he's had these knocks if we were fit."

Coventry City have ten players who would have been in contention for a starting place in the team had they not been injured and that means a lot of pressure on the fringe players as they battle for Championship survival in the remaining eight games of the season.

Turner is confident that the fit players will rise to the occasion and will do what is necessary.

He said: "The squad is what it is and it is up to the lads that are fit to get us out of this precarious situation so we are safe and can go again next season."

"It is just unfortunate that we have gone down hill since Christmas, but I am confident we can get out of it. We are all in it together and we have a responsibility to take every game seriously and finish as high as we can."

Birmingham born Turner has been at Coventry City since 2005 and came through the Academy ranks before establishing himself as a first choice central defender. In his six years at the club he has seen managers come and go, but was saddened when Boothroyd was sacked as he was the manager that helped him the most.

"It was a shock to everyone because no-one saw it coming from the playing side," said Turner on hearing the news that Boothroyd had been sacked.

"My initial reaction was I was disappointed because he had a lot of confidence in the lads and in me personally and I thought I grew as a player playing for him and I thank him for that because he gave me a lot of confidence, maybe confidence that I didn't have before, and I will always look back and remember the good things he brought to my game and thank him for it."
