Turner agrees terms with Cardiff

Coventry City central defender Ben Turner has passed his medical at Cardiff and has agreed terms with the Welsh club.

The move should be completed later today, the last day of the summer transfer window.

The 23 year old Birmingham born defender has been on Coventry's books since he joined the club as a 16 year old Academy player and signed an three and a half year contract in December last year which would have kept him at The Ricoh Arena until 2014.

Turner missed most of last season after damaging his knee in November while playing for Coventry City against Leeds United and was not expected to be fit to return to action until mid September. Before his injury he was Coventry's outstanding player and for a while, despite being a defender, he was their joint top scorer.

It is thought that the deal will cost Cardiff £750,000 plus striker Jon Parkin, who is set to join the Sky Blues after passing his medical at Ryton yesterday although Parkin has yet to agree terms with Coventry.

Should Parkin reject the move, Turner could still move to Cardiff for a straight cash payment, or he might be snatched by his hometown club Birmingham City, who are also keen on taking the defender. Turner was a Blues supporter during his childhood and would welcome a move to St Andrews.

The deals, if they go through are expected to be completed by the 11:00 pm transfer deadline tonight.
