The Sky Blue Trust notes with sadness the decision of CCFC to part company with Chief Executive, Steve Waggott.
After guiding the club to a period of relative stability and with the recent achievement of on-field success under Tony Mowbray's management, the timing of Steve’s departure is surprising.
The Coventry Telegraph reports that he was due to meet with the stadium owners shortly to discuss the Sky Blues future tenure at the Ricoh. We have to ask where his resignation leaves those discussions. Given the complete lack of evidence of any progress on a putative "new stadium”, and with the expiry at the end of this season of the initial 2 year agreement to use the Ricoh, talks on the extended option and a longer-term deal are vital to give the club the platform to launch a promotion push.
Steve was, first and foremost, a “football man”. The highly successful appointment of Tony Mowbray and his staff was in no small part down to his skills. We thank Steve for his efforts and wish him the best of luck in the future.
The club is now left with a board consisting solely of Chairman Tim Fisher. The Sky Blue Trust asks that Mr Fisher acts quickly to reassure supporters that Steve's departure will not alter the board’s support of Tony Mowbray and his team, and that discussions to secure a longer-term deal to play at the Ricoh will not be jeopardised by his resignation or by the owners stalling on any such deal until after their Court of Appeal hearing in February.
