Tough Draw For Strachan, Coleman And O'Neill

Three former Coventry City players/managers were in Nice today for the Euro 2016 draw.

Gordon Strachan, the Scottish manager, Chris Coleman the Wales manager and Michael O'Neill the Northern Ireland manager were at the draw along with members of every country in Europe.

Northern ireland were in Pot 5, Scotland and Wales were in Pot 4 with Republic Of Ireland In Pot 2 and England in Pot 1. New members and British terrority Gibraltar were in Pot 6.

There were eight qualifying groups of 6 countries and one group of 5. France, as hosts qualify directly for the Finals. Following the draw UEFA allocated them to Group I, the group of 5 to play friendlies

For political reasons UEFA has ruled that Azerbaijan were not allowed to meet Armenia, and Spain could not play Gibraltar, something which happened in the draw and saw Gibraltar moved to Group D.

For television rights reasons, England, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands must be in six-team sections.

The nine venues in France for Euro2016 are Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Nice, Lens, Toulouse.

Qualifying matches will be played from Thursday through to Tuesday witj nine going through automatically and then play-offs.
