Tividale Are Going To Be No Pushovers - Hopkins

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins feels that Tividale will be difficult opponents when the sides meet at Sphinx Drive on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Sphinx won 3-1 at Bewdley Town and 2-1 at home to Lye Town to set up this meeting with Tividale who won all of their Midland Alliance fixtures so far this season.

Speaking to the Coventry Observer's Steve Carpenter, Hopkins said:

“Saturday's game is massive for the club. It's the oldest cup competition in the world so it's a privilege to take part and we hope we can attract another big crowd to help us progress.”

Last night's Birmingham Senior Cup 1-0 defeat at Banbury United was a chance for Hopkins to give couple of first team regulars a night off preparation for Saturday.

And Hopkins is hoping to get one over on Tividale in what is the first of three fixtures between the two sides.

“We're playing them in the FA Vase and the league in the coming weeks so it would be good to get the upper-hand for the other games.

“But they are going to be no pushovers. They've won eight in eight but they've played teams in the bottom half of the league so I don't think they've really been tested yet."

Sphinx go into the game after losing 1-0 at Southern League side Banbury United in a Birmingham Senior Cup Tie on Tuesday night."

“We been preparing well and although I was disappointed to get knocked out of a cup competition it did give me a chance to give a few of the boys a rest and see what some of the other players have to offer.

“It gave some of the fringe players a chance to stake their claim.

“The prize money from Saturday's game would help the club massively – it's what keeps us ticking over so hopefully we can put our name in the hat for the next round.”

Kick off at Sphinx Drive is at 3pm and admission is £5 for adults and £3 concessions.
