Time For A Reshuffle

On Saturday morning, Coventry City’s Board meet to discuss the now vacant managerial position at Highfield Road thanks to the welcome news of Peter Reid’s resignation, sorry departure by mutual consent on Thursday.

Also believed to be on the agenda at this meeting is the future of the club chairman Mike McGinnity who told the CET: “I don’t know if I will continue to be chairman. “It is bad practice to make decisions when things are going against you, so I will sleep on it but I don’t see any queue forming for my job and there haven't been for the last three years. “I will see on Saturday what the fans think and if they want me here.”

This is a vital time for the club. Not only are they currently locked in a dogfight to preserve their Championship status, but they are due to move to the new arena in time to commence next season’s fixtures.

Now undoubtedly, some public confidence will be stored with Reid having left the club, but there are still many deeply unhappy with the man who appointed him.

Mr McGinnity admitted in one interview that he has made mistakes and held his hands up but there has been discontent amongst supporters about the Chairman long before Peter Reid and Jojar Dhinsa entered the equation.
In the interest of moving the club forward, we would like to suggest that maybe this meeting now is the time for a Board reshuffle in order to restore full public confidence in the club.

Of course with the loans of £516k, McGinnity and his company at the time PEL PLC and his share in the £2m which was loaned interest free to the club in 2003 by himself, Sir Derek Higgs and Geoffrey Robinson, we would not expect Mr McGinnity to leave the club (unless a buyer to pay off his loans was found).

But having some else to take over the role of the club and lift the burden of responsibility from the current Chairman and the pressure such a position carries before it has a fatal effect on his life. As much as we all love the club, it is not a matter of life and death for any of us.

It would give those who are staying away from the club no more excuses not to turn out and support the team whenever they can and may even help to sell a few more season tickets to those undecided about next season and is something for the Board to consider.
